What is the Summit Mini-Lift and how does it work?
The Summit Mini-Lift, performed by Thomas K. Carlson, M.D, combines the benefits of a traditional facelift with the innovations of a Quicklift, a Lifestyle Lift, and other mini-incision facelifts. This in-office surgical procedure tightens the skin in the lower part of the face and neck without looking pulled or unnatural. Each Mini-Lift is tailored to the individual patient for optimal results. The new procedure allows for smaller incisions, quicker recovery, less risk of complications, less cost, and immediate effects. Unlike other facelifts that only tighten skin, the Summit Mini-Lift tightens the connective tissue beneath the skin for long-lasting results.
What conditions does it treat?
The Summit Mini-Lift is designed to correct loose and sagging skin and muscles in the cheeks, along the jaw line, and in the neck due to aging and loss of elasticity. A Mini-Lift restores smoother, more pleasing contours to your face and neck.
How is the surgery performed?
Prior to surgery the patient is given oral medications to aid pain and relaxation. A local anesthetic is used in front of the ear to numb the lower face, inhibit bleeding, and gently separate skin from the underlying tissue. The doctor makes a small incision from the sideburn to the bottom of the ear, following natural skin creases. The underlying sagging muscle and connective tissues are lifted using permanent suspending sutures to address the neck, lower and mid-face, and cheeks. Incisions and sutures are customized to accommodate the unique appearance and facial structure of each patient. Excess skin is removed and incisions are closed with a technique designed to minimize visible scarring. The process takes around 2 to 3 hours.
The Summit Mini-Lift is often called a "weekend facelift" because many patients can have the procedure on a Friday, visit the office Saturday for a follow-up appointment, and return to work on Monday or Tuesday. The downtime associated with the Mini Facelift varies from patient to patient. Realistically most patients can plan on a 3 to 7 day recovery period before returning to normal activities.
What kind of results will I see?
The Summit Mini-Lift creates immediate results that last. The procedure firms the lower facial area, and improves jaw line definition, erasing 5 to 10 years from the patient’s appearance. After the procedure, the normal aging process resumes. Generally, younger patients enjoy longer lasting results, however lifestyle choices, bone structure, skin type, sun exposure and heredity help determine how long results last.
How does a Summit Mini-Lift feel?
The Summit Mini-Lift is performed under local anesthesia, minimizing pain and the chance for complications. Bandages are optional. Dr. Carlson will provide a prescription for pain medication but discomfort can often be controlled with an over-the-counter pain reliever. Patients will experience temporary bruising, which may be covered with makeup after three days. To minimize the amount of swelling, patients are encouraged to sleep with their head elevated for the first week and to apply cold compresses as often as possible the first 48 hours.
How is this procedure different from a Threadlift™ or Featherlift™ ?
The Threadlift™ and Featherlift™ involve placement of special barbed stitches through the skin and can only give a small fraction of the results and long-term positive effects of a true surgical facelift like the Summit Mini-Lift.
Who is suitable for a Summit Mini Face Lift?
The Summit Mini-Lift is generally most effective for healthy patients between 40 and 65+ years of age who have mild to moderate excess skin and wrinkles in the lower regions of the face and neck. An individualized consultation is required to review a patient’s medical history and facial aging patterns to assure the procedure is right for you.
How much does it cost?
The Summit Mini-Lift is a more affordable alternative to a traditional facelift.
